Dean Andrews may ‘beg’ Emmerdale bosses to let him reprise Life on Mars role

Dean Andrews will have to "beg" ‘Emmerdale’ bosses to let him re-join ‘Life on Mars’, if the show still wants him when it returns.

The BBC time-travelling drama’s co-creator Matthew Graham recently revealed the programme will return for a "final chapter", and Dean – who stars as Will Taylor on the ITV soap – admitted there is a "very good chance" of him reprising his role as DS Ray Carling in the series.

When asked if he would be reuniting with his ‘Life on Mars’ co-stars, he told ‘This Morning’: "There’s a very, very good chance of that happening.

"The writers, Matt Graham and Ashley Pharaoh are in the process of writing four or five episodes, and they’re getting everyone back together who wants to come back.

"I believe Phil and John are very, very excited about it. Danny Mays, myself.

"They’re hoping everybody wants to come back, and they’re going to make the story in the 70s and the 80s, and the modern day.

"I’ve just got to try and beg ‘Emmerdale’ at some point in my life … if they still want me."

The drama show – which ran for two series from 2006 to 2007 and spawned a sequel ‘Ashes to Ashes’ – followed police detective Sam Tyler (John Simm), who wakes up in the 1970s after a car accident and has to work alongside DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister).

In April, Matthew tweeted: "We’d never make another ‘Mars’ unless we really had something to say and could push the envelope all over again.

"Finally, we have. There are bad things and there are monsters. These things are real.

"But to get you they have to get through The Guv. And The Guv is putting his driving gloves on. (sic)"
