Kate Garraway wishes the universe could give her a "little calm moment" after she suffered a "terrifying" incident on the weekend when her car tyre exploded on the motorway.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter was in her vehicle with her kids, Darcey, 14, and 11-year-old Billy, when her tyre blew out as they were rushing back to check on her husband Derek Draper, who has been in intensive care in hospital since March after being struck down with coronavirus.
Recalling the incident on this morning’s (27.07.20) ‘GMB’, she said: "It was the first time we’d been out in the car. On the way back it suddenly exploded. All weird steering. And then it just happened to be there wasn’t a hard shoulder.
"The drama unfolded. We were rushing back to check on Derek. My mum and dad were coming back for the first visit.
"I’d just like to put a message out: I’m at my limit. If the universe could just give a little calm moment."
Kate took to Instagram to tell her followers about the incident, revealing she was left "shaken" but was safe, and thanked Kent Police for "rescuing" her family.
She wrote: "Thanks to our amazing saviours Liz & Mark from @kentpoliceuk who rescued me after a full tyre blow out on the motorway!!! Never had one before – utterly terrifying. Managed to keep control of car but couldn’t get off motorway as no hard shoulder & when the AA said they couldn’t come for an hour , then rang after half an hour to say might still be an hour had no choice but to call the police. They were so brilliant and got us to safety and we are now on way home in taxi , shaken but safe , tow truck on way to car. It’s first time have taken kids out without Derek too , but we are safe and will update you fully on @gmb with @benshephardofficial tomorrow from 6 a.m (sic)"
Kate has been going through a tough time of late with Derek still seriously ill in hospital, despite him now being coronavirus-free and out of a coma.
