Lesley Joseph wants to make Birds of a Feather lockdown episode

Lesley Joseph wants to make a ‘Birds of a Feather’ lockdown episode.

The 74-year-old actress – who played Dorien Green on the sitcom – has admitted she would love to revive her character during the coronavirus pandemic, as she believes it would create an "hysterical" episode with her co-stars Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke.

Asked if there will be a reunion episode, she said on ‘Good Morning Britain’: "I will never say never because I absolutely adore that character. And the episode I really want to make is Dorien in lockdown because what she will get up to is anybody’s business."

Dorien had plenty of flings with men throughout the series, and Lesley believes that lockdown wouldn’t stop her from trying to bag a few more.

Asked if Dorien would try to break the lockdown rules by trying to smuggle men into her house, Lesley replied: "She wouldn’t be allowed to have anybody in. They’d all be on Zoom.

"I just think it would be an hysterical episode to do, so I’m very tightly keeping my fingers crossed that we will manage to do that."

Lesley believes the sitcom survived for so many years because the characters were relatable to viewers.

She said: "The thing is though, with Dorien Green, we wanted to make her not just funny but we wanted to make her real.

"So there were some moments throughout it where she got quite serious and always quite emotional. And that’s why people love the character because they can identify with her. They not only laughed at her, but they felt for her as well.

"We didn’t want to make cardboard cut-out characters, we wanted to make them really three dimensional. And I think that’s why it lasted so long because people really feel and identify with them."
