Normal People leads TV Choice Awards nominations

‘Normal People’ leads the list of nominees for this year’s TV Choice Awards.

The acclaimed drama series – which stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal – has received three nominations, including Best New Drama, after becoming a huge hit among viewers when it was released earlier this year.

The show – which is based on the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney – will face competition from ‘Gangs Of London’, ‘Gentleman Jack’ and ‘White House Farm’ for the Best New Drama gong.

Daisy has also been nominated for the Best Actress award, alongside the likes of Michelle Keegan (‘Our Girl’), Jodie Comer (‘Killing Eve’) and Brenda Blethyn (‘Vera’).

Paul, 24 – who played Daisy’s on-screen love interest in the hit series – has been nominated for the Best Actor accolade.

Martin Clunes (‘Doc Martin’), Stephen McGann (‘Call The Midwife’) and David Tennant (‘Deadwater Fell’) are also in line for the award.

Elsewhere, ‘Killing Eve’, ‘Our Girl’, ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Sex Education’ are in contention for the Best Drama Series gong, while ‘Call The Midwife’, ‘Casualty’, ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘Doctor Who’ are competing for the Best Family Drama accolade.

The Best Entertainment Show award will go to one of ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’, ‘Beat The Chasers’, ‘Gogglebox/Celebrity Gogglebox’ and ‘The Graham Norton Show’.

Meanwhile, ‘After Life’, ‘Brassic’, ‘Friday Night Dinner’ and ‘Still Open All Hours’ have all been nominated for the Best Comedy prize.

Another of the most hotly-contested categories is for the Best Talent Show award, with ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘Dancing on Ice’, ‘The Great British Bake Off’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ all nominated for the accolade.

TV viewers will be able to cast their votes for the awards at www.tvchoicemagazine.co.uk, with voting open from July 7 until July 17.
