Eamonn Holmes: Piers Morgan is the savour of daytime TV

Eamonn Holmes believes Piers Morgan has saved breakfast TV.

The 60-year-old star has heaped praise on the outspoken broadcaster and described him as the "saviour" of daytime television since joining ‘Good Morning Britain’ in 2015.

Appearing on the ‘Human Nature’ podcast, Eamonn said: "He came there and shook it up.

"He was the right man in the right place at the right time. And so far, so good."

But the ‘This Morning’ presenter is worried Piers could leave daytime TV behind, as he fears the 55-year-old star will "have enough" of his job.

Eamonn explained: "But the thing about Piers, and probably why a lot of people watch him, is you don’t know how long it’ll last, you don’t know how long he will last.

"You don’t know when he’ll have had enough or whatever."

Piers recently revealed his on-screen partnership with co-host Susanna Reid will continue for at least one more year after he agreed a new deal with ITV last month.

He said: "I’ve just signed a new contract up for GMB until the end of next year. I love working with Susanna and the team – we’re a Ying Yang that works."

And Piers – who has received over 4,000 Ofcom complaints this year – insisted he doesn’t care what his critics think of him.

He added: "If my style upsets people, don’t watch! Watch something else. Nobody’s forcing anyone to watch it.

"You’ve got a remote control in your hand, I really don’t understand what the problem is.

"I don’t care. I only care about Ofcom complaints if I genuinely feel that I have been at fault, then you know you’re a fool.

"Ofcom ruled very heavily in my favour, which confirmed my belief that I’m just doing my job. The job of broadcasters, particularly during a crisis like this, is to challenge and ask questions."
