Daniel Brocklebank banned from dating site amid impersonator suspicions

‘Coronation Street’ star Daniel Brocklebank was banned from a dating site because he was thought to be an impersonator.

The 40-year-old actor has revealed via Twitter that he was encouraged to join the dating site by his mum, but he was quickly removed from the platform because his profile was assumed to be fake.

Daniel – who plays Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap – wrote on the micro-blogging platform: "My mum suggested I join a dating site… I did & they banned my profile because they thought I was impersonating myself [laughing emojis] (sic)"

The star was subsequently asked by one of his followers whether he’s been allowed to rejoin the site.

He replied: "Nope. I figured it was the universe suggesting it was the wrong move."

Daniel previously revealed he’d received homophobic abuse via Twitter after his character entered ‘Coronation Street’.

The actor admitted he’d been sent offensive messages by TV viewers simply because he was playing a bisexual character on the long-running soap.

Daniel – who first appeared in ‘Coronation Street’ in 2014 – shared: "A woman was horrified they’d brought a bisexual character into the show and tweeted saying it was bad enough Corrie kept bringing in gay characters, but to ‘add insult to injury we’ve got a bi.’"

The actor acknowledged that British society had "come so far" in terms of LGBTQ+ rights – but he also insisted there’s "still a long way to go".

He said: "I replied, ‘Get used to your injury being insulted’, because we’re not going anywhere.

"We’ve come so far and that’s wonderful, but there’s still a long way to go. As long as you’re a nice, decent person, what does it matter?"
