Dominic Brunt ‘snapped’ during Emmerdale lockdown filming

Dominic Brunt "snapped" during filming for his ‘Emmerdale’ lockdown episode.

The 50-year-old actor – who has played Paddy Kirk on the ITV show for 23 years – admitted he "hit a wall" while shooting the special scenes, for which he and co-star Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle) had to learn more material than usual for their two-hander.

Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Monday (22.06.20), he said: "I went from learning nothing for three months to learning basically a 25-minute conversation between two people, so it was terrifying.

"I definitely hit a wall by one day and was a bit snappy. I had to make some calls that night just to apologise to people."

Explaining what he said on set, he revealed: "I can’t do it, I can’t do it, I need a glass of water."

Dominic also revealed his and Lucy’s special episode is much more "subtle" than others in the soap’s lockdown series.

He said: "Out of the six episodes, the one we were doing is subtle, the drama is tiny. There’s no huge reveal or a massive fallout.

"It’s an odd one, all the drama comes from tiny moments but it was like 58 pages in a day."

While the lockdown episode was slightly different to the norm for numerous reasons – such as the cast and crew having to social distance, due to the coronavirus pandemic – Dominic didn’t start collaborating with the writers any more so than usual, because he feels it would be a "slippery slope" if actors started meddling with scripts.

He said: "I prefer to leave the writers alone. They are experts and professionals at what they do. I think it’s a slippery slope to let actors into that process.

"You wouldn’t let the editors start directing so why let the actors start writing. The lunatics would take over the asylum."
