Jodie Comer misses on-set chaos amid restrictions

Jodie Comer missed the typical on-set "chaos" while filming ‘Talking Heads’.

The 27-year-old actress recently returned to work to film the revival of Alan Bennett’s classic series, taking on the monologue originally performed by Dame Julie Walters in 1988 – but with fewer people than usual on-set due to social distancing, she was thrown "off balance".

She explained to Radio Times magazine: "The biggest adjustment was the stillness. Usually on set there is a lot of chaos and noise, but as there were less people on set due to social distancing rules, it was very peaceful. This took some getting used to.

"Normally you have to zone yourself out of the noise to focus, but it was so quiet which threw me off balance to begin with."

‘Talking Heads’ originally aired on the BBC over two series in 1988 and 1998, featuring Dame Patricia Routledge, Dame Maggie Smith, Stephanie Cole, Dame Julie Walters, Dame Thora Hird, Dame Eileen Atkins, David Haig and Dame Penelope Wilton.

The monologues have subsequently been taught at schools across the country to A-level and GCSE English Literature students.

They tell the stories of various characters by different actors and actresses.

Jodie has taken on the role of an actress named Lesley who believes she has landed her big break in a movie for the West German market in the episode ‘Her Big Chance’.

However, it’s later revealed that she’s actually being lined up to star in a soft porn film.

The ‘Killing Eve’ star jumped at the chance to star in the new series, and was delighted to be able to work with director Josie Rourke.

She said: "It was also a great opportunity to meet Josie Rourke and work with her on this piece.

"I thought it was a wonderful idea from the BBC to bring audiences new content at this time, and I was itching to get off my sofa and do something creative."
