Mark Wingett rules out a revival of The Bill

‘The Bill’ star Mark Wingett doubts the show will ever return to TV.

The 59-year-old actor – who played Jim Carver on the long-running show – thinks the series is unlikely to make a comeback due to cost issues.

Mark explained: "People still think of ‘The Bill’ fondly. They really miss it.

"And there hasn’t been a proper uniform police series since it finished. But I don’t think it will ever come back.

"When it was on, it grew from a small studio into this huge thing that had 500 people working on it. So it would be very hard to start it again from scratch.

"It would have to be a new series with a new title and a new cast. I’m certainly too old for it now!"

Mark also thinks the evolution of Britain’s police forces makes a revival unlikely.

The show originally aired between 1983 and 2010, but the actor cannot envision it ever returning to TV screens.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper, he shared: "Staffing numbers are different and things are policed in a different way. Things are much more violent now. And terrorism is around a lot more. So it would be a very different show."

Meanwhile, Trudie Goodwin recently insisted ‘The Bill’ shouldn’t have been cancelled.

The actress – who is best known for playing Sergeant June Ackland in the long-running police drama – was "disappointed" when the show was axed in 2010.

Trudie confessed: "I was so disappointed it finished.

"I thought there was no reason really why it should have, and that it could have gone on a great deal longer. I think it should still be on now."
