Larry Lamb wants Gavin + Stacey movie

Larry Lamb has called for a ‘Gavin & Stacey’ movie.

The 72-year-old actor would love to reprise his role as Mick Shipman again and thinks that, because it would be "virtually impossible" to get the whole cast back for an entire series of the comedy, a film would be a great idea.

He told OK! magazine: "The problem is, logistically, it’s a bloody nightmare as so many people involved with it have very active careers.

"It’s virtually impossible for there to be a whole series, but I imagine there will be another special. "It won’t be any time soon though, that’s for sure, as it has to be written first…

I’ve always thought a logical thing to do would be a ‘Gavin & Stacey’ movie, but that’s just my idea. "James and Ruth are big enough to carry a movie now. But as an actor, you’re often the last to know."

The show returned for a well-received one-off Christmas special last year so Larry thinks it’s highly likely creators and co-stars James Corden and Ruth Jones will be asked to write another.

He said: "After the response it got at Christmas, you can more of less be certain that, sooner or later, there will be more.

"I’m sure the BBC can persuade Ruth and James to write more, so it’s a question of when not if."

And the former ‘EastEnders’ star thinks that the lockdown period amid the coronavirus pandemic would be a great time for the writers to get started on a new script.

Asked if they’re writing for the show now, he said: "I have no idea. I think this would be a sensible time to be writing it, so it’s possible."
