Samantha Giles pens first children’s book

Samantha Giles has written her first children’s book.

The former ‘Emmerdale’ star excitedly announced her debut title ‘Rosemary and the Witches of Pendle Hill’ on Tuesday morning (19.05.2) as she revealed the book will be available this summer.

She tweeted: "So I can now announce my amazing news!

"I am so excited to say that my first children’s book ‘Rosemary and The Witches of Pendle Hill’ is going to be published THIS SUMMER by the fabulous @AgoraBooksLDN . Watch this space! (sic)"

Publisher Agora Books also shared the news and revealed they are "thrilled to be working with" the actress and author.

They wrote: "EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! We’re thrilled to be working with @sammeegiles on her first children’s novel, out later this summer!

"You’re going to love Rosemary and her gang, we’re sure of it."

The 48-year-old actress – who has played Bernice Blackstock on and off since 1998 – left the ITV soap in November, bringing an end to her most recent seven-year stint.

She has since revealed she felt "stifled" and "a bit frustrated" towards the end of her latest run as she didn’t feel as though she was getting many "big, juicy storylines" because of her "comedy character".

She previously said: "It was very tiring. It was full on, filming all those emotional scenes. It really takes it out of you.

"It felt like the right time to leave. It’s scary because, as actors, regular work is the dream but I want to play other roles.

"You get that creative itch and I was starting to feel a bit stifled and I needed to move on. I got a bit frustrated because often when you’re playing a comedy character you’re not going to get big juicy storylines. I want to get my teeth into something."
