Kate Garraway is going through a ‘living hell’ as her husband battles the coronavirus.
Kate’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-star Piers Morgan revealed the severity of Derek Draper’s condition on the show on Monday (18.05.20) and sent his prayers to Kate, Derek and their children Darcey, 14, and William, 11.
Speaking on ‘GMB’, Piers, 55, said: "We haven’t talked about it much because Kate Garraway is going through a living hell like many people. Her husband has been in a very serious condition for many many weeks.
"We can all just hope and pray he comes through it, but it’s been very, very difficult for Kate and her family. We miss her here at the show, but obviously we stay in touch with her a lot. We send her and the kids all our love and we just wish Derek all the very best."
52-year-old former political advisor Derek was admitted to a hospital intensive care facility on April 1 after being stricken with the virus and falling into a coma.
After celebrating the NHS for their hard work during Clap for Carers last Thursday, (14.05.20), Kate revealed she had FaceTimed Derek and believed he could hear the celebrations.
She wrote on Instagram: "So our #nhsclap was a little different tonight. We still clapped & cheered as much as ever but I couldn’t film on my phone as had Derek on FaceTime throughout! – ofcourse we can’t KNOW but I believe he can hear us & thought at least the incredible @nhs team’s looking after him would hear a fraction of our gratitude. The 53-year-old television presenter praised the efforts of NHS staff, describing them as "superheroes".
She said: "THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts – you are superheroes . Love to all in these terrible times – the separation from loved ones whatever the reason is so tough . #staystrong #staypositive #keephopealive (sic)"
