Matt Lucas lands Channel 4 lockdown series

Matt Lucas has landed a new comedy series on Channel 4.
The ‘Little Britain’ star – who was recently confirmed as the new ‘Great British Bake Off’ host – will be celebrating the best ways celebrities, members of the public and eye animals keep themselves entertained with his new programme ‘Reasons To Be Cheerful with Matt Lucas’.
Channel 4 revealed the six-part series – which starts on April 26 and has been written by Harry Hill – will see Matt joined by self-isolating comedians, musicians, TV personalities, sports stars and more as he presents each half hour episode from the safety of his own home.
The network also announced ‘Mo Gilligan’s All Star Happy Hour’, featuring sketches, viral formats unique musical performances and prize-winning games.
The programme – made up of four hour long episodes – will pit members of the public against celebrities in a series of challenges.
Ian Katz, Director of Programmes at Channel 4, said, "After weeks of relentless grim news and being cooped up at home, Britain desperately needs a dose of fun and Mo and Matt, two of the breakout stars of lockdown, are just the people to administer it."
And Phil Harris, Head of Entertainment at Channel 4, added that the station was "really proud" of how the team has come together during such difficult times.
He commented: "It’s great to be working with Mo again – albeit in slightly different circumstances to how we imagined. We hope he, along with Matt Lucas, bring some much needed light relief to our viewers.
"I’ve been really proud of how our team, and the sector, have responded in testing times. These commissions showcase great talent, quick-thinking and bags of humour at a time when we need it most."
