Rio and Kate Ferdinand to star in one-off BBC documentary

Rio and Kate Ferdinand’s family life will be explored in a new one-off BBC documentary.
Following the BAFTA award-winning documentary ‘Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum And Dad’, which saw Rio adjust to his new role after the death of his wife Rebecca in 2015, the newlyweds – who married in September – are to open up about their lives in ‘Rio And Kate: Becoming A Step Family’.
Rio, 41, and Kate, 27, said in a statement: "The positive response to ‘Being Mum And Dad’ in 2017 and the way it helped others going through a similar situation was overwhelming. For that reason we were both compelled to tell the next chapter in our lives together."
The couple hope the new documentary will help those who are dealing with bereavement as the former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star took on the role as step-mum to Rio’s three children – sons 13-year-old Lorenz, 11-year-old Tate and eight-year-old daughter Tia.
They said: "We hope ‘Becoming A Step Family’ will give a unique insight into step families and the journey through grief, whilst also providing an intimate look at our lives together."
Despite the challenges they faced ahead of their big day, Kate was given away by the two boys.
Kate said: "Having the boys walk me down the aisle was just amazing. It was a hugely important moment for me and they did so well.
"Seeing Rio at the altar made me feel so happy, I couldn’t wait to get to him.
"Especially as he was so emotional. It was everything that I had imagined it to be, but I didn’t cry at that moment. I cried all my tears in the morning!"
