Kym Marsh admits Christmas will be tough with her Army boyfriend spending the season serving in the Middle East.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress has sent Scott Ratcliffe a festive box of treats to open on Christmas Day (25.12.19) while he’s away on his tour of duty, and they’ll be doing their best to stay in touch while the parachute regiment major is away from home.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ on Tuesday (03.12.19), she said: "It is really hard. You do all those little things [like FaceTime], we’ve sent him boxes with Christmas things in, so he’ll have that on Christmas Day."
The festive season will be an emotional one for the 43-year-old soap star, as this week she’ll also be making her final appearance on-screen as cobbles character Michelle Connor after more than 13 years in the role.
Reflecting on what she’ll miss most from ‘Corrie’, Kym added: "Yeah, it’s the people. There are obviously going to be people that I stay in touch with, I’ve made friends for life."
Meanwhile, she previously admitted she was "anxious" about saying goodbye to Scott as he was preparing to leave, and she explained it can sometimes take weeks for them to talk because of the poor signal in the places he visits.
She recently said: "There is always anxiety, it is always stressful when he goes away. There may not be an actual war threat currently but there’s always a risk when you’re in these dangerous places. And it can be extra worrying when you aren’t able to communicate for periods of time.
"If he’s on a base he can get in touch, but there are times when he is out on exercises and I don’t hear from him for three weeks because there is just no signal. In some areas there is just nothing, he went to Kenya and for two months we barely spoke a word.
"He always says that it’s the families at home who are the brave ones – they just don’t see themselves as brave at all. But it won’t be easy watching him go away, and I will worry until I see him again."
