June Brown fears robot takeover

June Brown fears robots could end the world by going on a knifing spree in people’s homes.
The 92-year-old actress – who plays ‘EastEnders’ legend Dot Cotton – is concerned machines will take over at some point, and while she isn’t worried about them becoming more intelligent than humans, she does fear bots might start attacking people in the comfort of their own abodes.
She said: "Imagine having a robot in your sitting room.
"I don’t suppose it could develop a brain, but it might decide to put a knife in you. I wouldn’t trust it."
And June has made a "cheerful" prediction that the introduction of robots in houses could result in the end of the world – if they develop murderous ways.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I don’t know what’ll happen – maybe the end of the world.
"That’s cheerful."
Despite insisting she is "technology illiterate", June does use a mobile phone but she isn’t a big fan of messages written in "text speak" and doesn’t touch computers.
She told TV Times magazine: "I’m technology illiterate. I don’t bother with computers, although I have an electronic reader.
"I can play CDs and I can use an ordinary mobile.
"But with mobiles now, all these funny things come up when I just want to make calls.
"Then there’s text speak, like, ‘C U 2moro’. It’s like hieroglyphics."
However, June is in fact a computer game star having lent her vocal talents to the role of curvaceous, vampiric vixen Vivi, who has an American accent, in 1995 game ‘Brain Dead 13’.
