‘Celebs Go Dating’ cancelled their wrap party last week as a mark of respect for Mike Thalassitis.
The ‘Love Island’ star – who took his own life just over a week ago – appeared on the dating programme in February 2018 and his former girlfriend, Megan McKenna, and friend Sam Thompson have been shooting the current series, so it was deemed inappropriate to celebrate the end of filming so soon after the tragedy.
Kerry Katona, who is also one of the stars to have taken part on the latest series, revealed in her new! magazine column: "The ‘Celebs Go Dating’ wrap party was postponed last week in the wake of what happened.
"Obviously Megan McKenna wouldn’t be there, and I know Sam Thompson’s devastated.
"It just feels like the whole thing wouldn’t be appropriate right now."
The 38-year-old star has reached out to Megan to offer her support.
She added: "I texted Megan to let her know I was thinking of her but I haven’t heard back yet.
"She’ll need time to grieve such a sad, unnecessary loss."
Though the Atomic Kitten star only met Mike once, she thought he was "lovely" and described his passing as a "great shame".
She said: "I only met Mike once but he was so lovely and his death is such a great shame.
"We need to start really looking at why these young people are taking their own lives. Nothing is worth it – there is always, always a solution."
Days after Mike passed away, the dating show dedicated an episode to the former footballer.
After the credits rolled, a photo of Mike appeared on the screen alongside the words "In memory of Mike Thalassitis 1993-2019".
