Cheryl Fergison begs popular soap for TV role

Cheryl Fergison has begged Irish soap ‘Fair City’ for a role.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress – who played Heather Trott on the BBC show for half a decade until 2012 – is currently touring Ireland in ‘Menopause: The Musical’, but she took some time off to visit the set of the popular programme and put herself up for a potential new part.
In a clip shared on Instagram, she said: "Okay everyone I am here in Dublin. I am promoting ‘Menopause: The Musical’, but today I am on the set of ‘Fair City’.
"Look, there is everything. There is the Spar and everything… I think that you guys should give me a little job on ‘Fair City’ and I should be on it.
"Somebody who passes through for about six months and maybe gets killed off again?"
Cheryl, 53, added that she wouldn’t mind her character dying "as long as" she had the chance to get back into the world of soaps.
She admitted: "I don’t mind as long as I do it. That would be fantastic. Come on ‘Fair City’, get me on. My foot is almost in the door."
‘Fair City’ – which airs on RTÉ in Ireland – is the country’s most popular and longest-running show, having been broadcast for nearly three decades.
When it originally launched in September 1989 it was for one episode a week as part of a limited run, but it now airs four times every week all year round.
Cheryl last appeared on ‘EastEnders’ seven years ago when Heather was killed off by Ben Mitchell, and she went on to have roles in ‘The Spa’ and ‘Big School’.
In January last year, she publicly called out to ITV to consider her for a part on ‘Coronation Street’ or ‘Emmerdale’.
She tweeted at the time: "It seems many of the soap watching public would like to see me on the cobbles or in the dales.
"[Emmerdale and Coronation Street] worth considering if you are thinking of new characters?
"Heather was such a great character to play. Now it’s time to create a new character. Time to see a completely different character in one of the other continuing dramas."
