Judy Finnigan ‘nearly died’ after taking Ibuprofen

Judy Finnigan "nearly died" after taking Ibuprofen.
The 70-year-old TV presenter – who has been married to Richard Madeley for 48 years – had a brush with death after taking the painkiller to aid an injured knee, but she claims it made her develop four large stomach ulcers and left her vomiting blood.
In her column for the Daily Express newspaper, she wrote: "Last autumn it happened to me and I nearly died.
"It was nothing to do with aspirin, which I don’t take. The culprit was good old over-the-counter Ibuprofen, the seemingly harmless stuff you take for a bad back, or (in my case) a painful knee.
"I gulped the jolly little bright blue capsules, looking like sweeties, daily for a mere four weeks.
"I survived thanks to an exceptionally swift-arriving and skilled ambulance crew, superb emergency treatment at London’s Royal Free Hospital, and two major life-saving blood transfusions."
Judy spent four days in hospital recovering, and claims her "hugely experienced" consultant told her the painkiller was the cause.
She said: "My hugely experienced gastric consultant later told me that the smoking gun in my case was Ibuprofen.
"He said I’d developed four large stomach ulcers in as many weeks. He’d found one directly above a main artery, which had ruptured."
This comes after Judy revealed last year that "sexism" in the media industry used to make her angry and it was the differing treatment between her and Richard that constantly ticked her off.
She explained: "The director would come through from the gallery and say, ‘ITN want to come to us in two minutes, so when I tell you, Richard, will you hand over to ITN.’ It was always Richard.
"I was furious because I was as much a journalist as him but they automatically thought the person to hand over to in a crisis was a man, so we had a few words."
