Shona Ramsey’s killer son to make Coronation Street return

Coronation Street’s David Platt and Shona Ramsey’s relationship will be thrown into question next year when her killer son tries to convince her to smuggle drugs into prison.
Show boss Iain MacLeod has teased the return of Shona’s (Julia Goulding) son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) who killed David’s (Jack P. Shepherd) wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) in 2016, and admits his reappearance will throw a "massive spanner into the works" for the couple.
He said: "We’ve got a story where Clayton will rear his ugly, criminal head. He throws a massive spanner into the works for David and he tries to embroil Shona in a plot to smuggle drugs into prison.
"It becomes a story about Shona and her son and throws into question David and Shona’s relationship.
"Clayton has been locked up and it provides the biggest challenge to David and Shona’s relationship since the Josh story."
The hard-hitting plot will kick off in early 2019 and continue for a few months afterwards.
Iain added: "The fact that David is in love with the mother of the boy who killed the love of his life is so huge and it’s a ripe area for us to explore.
"It’ll ultimately become quite gritty, that will kick off relatively early in the year and play right the way through for the next few months afterwards."
Julia recently hinted there was a "gritty" storyline coming up for Shona, and admitted she is keen to see her character go "off the rails" again.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "There are some really good stories coming up for Shona, and obviously I can’t tell you much about them.
"But it’s been nice to have some light relief since the rape storyline, so I’m really looking forward to getting back into the nitty gritty drama. It’s nice to be able to do both.
"I’d like to see her go off the rails again. From what she came in as I’ve been allowed to explore so many different colours to her personality."
