‘Coronation Street’ star Alex Bain has become a father.
The 17-year-old actor – who plays Simon Barlow in the ITV soap – and his girlfriend Levi Selby have welcomed their first child, a baby girl, into the world, whom they have decided to name Lydia-Rose Bain.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "They are absolutely over the moon – it’s the greatest gift they could have hoped for this Christmas."
Alex and Levi – who sat their GCSEs this year – have been dating since April last year, and were thought to have split this July, until Alex denied rumours when Levi, also 17, posted her 12-week scan on Facebook.
Taking to his Facebook account at the time, the actor said: "I’m still with my girlfriend, and can’t wait to have my own little family! (sic)"
Levi had set tongues wagging about a split when she claimed that it was just "she and her little girl from now on."
Posting her ultrasound on social media, she wrote: "Me and my little girl from now on!! Can’t wait to start my life with her."
It was believed the couple were going through a "bad patch" in the months before Lydia-Rose’s birth, but managed to settle their differences in time for the tot’s arrival.
A source said: "They’ve been through a bad patch but are now stronger than ever and so excited to meet their baby. It feels even more real now they’ve got a name. They just want to shout it from the rooftops."
The pair’s baby news was announced back in May and Alex was said to be "telling everyone" the happy news.
A source said at the time: "Alex has been telling everyone he’s going to be a father. He isn’t keeping it a secret. It’s hard to tell if he’s happy about it or not but he’s definitely not ashamed of it.
"Some people have been saying how young he is to be having a baby. It’s only happened to one other person at his school in recent years so it is pretty shocking."
