Coronation Street’s Liz McDonald will be left fighting for her life this Christmas when she is mowed down by a motor.
Beverley Callard’s character looks set for a miserable festive period when she is hit by a car, and her former lover Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) is arrested by police before people start to suspect his scorned wife Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), who recently found out about the pair’s affair.
A source said: "Liz’s attempted murder is one of the big Christmas storylines.
"Johnny is the one who initially arrested for it, but fingers are eventually pointed at Jenny."
As well as being arrested, Johnny will face a crisis at work as local cobbles residents threaten to boycott his and Jenny’s Rovers Return pub.
The source added to The Sun’s Bizarre TV column: "Jenny is still angry about Liz and Johnny’s affair, which was exposed at Tracy Barlow’s wedding.
"Scenes where Johnny was arrested were filmed last month, and the Weatherfield locals weren’t happy."
This comes just a week after Beverley confirmed she has landed the role of narrator in the musical ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, which will be shown at Manchester’s Opera House in January.
She wrote on Twitter: "Hi all seems like a great day to let you know, I’m so excited and maybe a little terrified to be performing in "The Rocky Horror Show" at the Opera House Manchester. Jan 9-26. Can’t wait!!! Come and see us! X (sic)"
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Joanne Clifton will appear as Janet in the production, and Ben Adams will take on the role of Brad.
