Charlie Lawson: Young stars are ‘obsessed with fame’

Charlie Lawson has hit out at young actors who are "obsessed with fame".
The 58-year-old star – who is to reprise his role as Jim McDonald in ‘Coronation Street’ later this year – believes some of the new breed of stars could learn a lot from some of the "old school" people in the industry, such as casting director Marilyn Johnson, who passed away over the weekend.
In tribute to Marilyn, he wrote on Twitter: "God bless her. Another of the the old school gone. These young pups nowadays obsessed with fame, could have learned so much from her in half an hour…. I know I’m working with them now!!! (sic)"
He also wrote: "1984? " How’s you’re bulls**t Charlie?" Dead on darlin. "Put you up for this " Got the job! RIP! (sic)"
Charlie – who is playing Scottish detective Inspector Rebus on the stage – posted his message after seeing the news on former ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Corrie’ star John Bowe’s Twitter.
John – who played Lawrence White in ‘Emmerdale’ and Duggie Ferguson in ‘Corrie’ – wrote: "Sad to hear that, Lee. Many memories going back to the 70s and 80s. RIP Marilyn (sic)"
TV producer Lee Dean took to Twitter on Sunday (12.08.18) to reveal Marilyn had sadly passed away, and admitted she will be "hugely missed".
He wrote: "So sad that my darling friend and the brilliant Casting Director Marilyn Johnson passed away this morning. She will be hugely missed and leaves a huge void. So many wonderful memories…. Cheers Maz! (sic)"
