Charlie Brooks used to get sent bibles while she was on ‘EastEnders’.
The 37-year-old actress portrayed vindictive mega bitch Janine Butcher in the long-running soap from 1999 to 2014 and she has admitted fans were so horrified by her alter ego’s nasty streak – which saw her murder three people – that they would send her the religious book in the hope that she could ask God for his forgiveness.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’ on Wednesday (11.07.18), she said: "I used to get sent bibles and things like that, saying, ‘God help you.’"
Charlie was reunited with her former co-star Pam St Clement – who played Pat Butcher – on the lunch time show and, although their characters clashed time and time again on screen, they actually had a strong friendship away from the cameras.
She said: "The friendship that we built up until she left was really quite special.
"I went to Pam for quite a lot of advice, with career stuff, personal stuff.
"She told me to do ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ I rang her up going: ‘Pam, what should I do?’ She said: ‘Charlie, you love adventure, you love life, go and do it.’
"Because she knew me, she knew it would work for me."
Pam, 76, added: "She’s fabulous. Such a worker."
Charlie explained: "I learnt from the best. But we did quite a lot of fighting. Then we were laughing in the green room before you knew it."
Charlie has previously said that she would be willing to return to the soap one day.
She said: "I think she’s sort of in my bones, a little bit. It’s always nice to go back. I’m so blessed with that character; I always wonder what she’s been up to. And so, it’s always a joy to revisit her, really. It’s like going home."
