Lucy Fallon doesn’t want happier storylines on ‘Coronation Street’.
The 22-year-old actress’ character Bethany Platt has had a tough time on the soap, initially her grooming and rape by Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper), and now unwittingly becoming friends with his daughter Kayla Westbrook (Mollie Winnard).
However, she doesn’t want things to get easier on the cobbles, as she explained to TV Times: "Everyone expects me to say that I want her to have happy storylines but I don’t, because the happy storylines aren’t as challenging to play."
She star has portrayed Bethany in the ITV show since March 2015 and has recently hinted show bosses may kill off her character – but she hopes to remain on the cobbles for the foreseeable future.
When asked how long she plans to stay on the show, she said: "As long as they’ll have me! Hopefully they won’t kill me off, but you just don’t know – it could be six months and I’m gone."
Lucy was delighted to scoop two prizes, Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance, at the recent British Soap Awards, and admitted she felt "delirious" shortly after she won the gongs.
She said: "I’m really happy but it hasn’t properly sunk in yet, I’m still a little bit delirious about it.
"I was so shocked, especially when I won Best Actress. It means so much.
"It’s nice to know you hard work has paid off and people believe you."
While Lucy is loving her time on ‘Corrie’, she is in tears about her life at times, but has thanked her boyfriend Tom Leech for always being "super supportive".
Speaking to OK! magazine, she added: "He was buzzing, very proud. He wasn’t sat with me, though, which was sad because I didn’t get to hug him until later on.
"He’s super supportive and always there for me – I need to cry about my days sometimes.
"There’s definitely no talk of marriage, though, we’re not there yet."
