Meghan Markle "gets her strength" from her mother Doria Ragland.
The 36-year-old Duchess of Sussex – who was known as Meghan Markle marrying Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle – broke with tradition by walking down the aisle unaccompanied before meeting Prince Charles ahead of the alter and Meghan’s make-up artist Daniel Martin said her "confidence" and "strength" is a characteristic "drawn" from her mother.
He told People magazine: "Meghan draws a lot of strength from her mother. Doria is classy, chic and confident, but not unapproachable. I definitely feel Meghan gets a lot of that from her mother."
Meghan’s father Thomas Markle was meant to be walking his daughter to the alter, but he withdrew from the ceremony shortly before he was due to arrive in the UK, after undergoing a heart operation.
However, Doria was beaming with pride as she arrived with her daughter in the car – driving past thousands of excited members of the public – before she entered the chapel ahead of Meghan and took a seat in the front row, opposite Queen Elizabeth, who she had met earlier in the week.
She went on to attend the couple’s intimate wedding reception at Frogmore House and people who met her said she was "lovely to talk to and bursting with pride", according to a source at the exclusive event.
An insider shared: "(Doria) has a softness, but I detected a steely core to her, she has come through a hell of a lot."
The former ‘Suits’ star’s mother was the only relative to attend the nuptials where her daughter became an official member of the royal family but Meghan’s friends – including the likes of Priyanka Chopra – and former co-stars were also there for support.
