Daniel Ryan backs Innocent writer to pen 2nd series

Daniel Ryan believes there could "quite easily" be another series of ‘Innocent’.
The hard-hitting four-part ITV drama came to an epic conclusion on Thursday night (17.05.18) as the identity of Tara Collins’ killer was revealed, and Daniel has backed writer Chris Lang to pen another run of the programme with new characters.
The former ‘Mount Pleasant’ star exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I always said this was a complete story and there was a lot of concern that it wouldn’t end, and it would lead on to an idea for another series.
"He could quite easily make something out of it. Whether those characters could carry on I don’t know.
"I don’t know whether the concept of a show called ‘Innocent’ which had a completely different set of characters trying to find out whether somebody was guilty or not is a definite possibility, but if Chris has got an idea then I would not question that for one second.
"He’s the boss, he knows what he’s doing."
Daniel – who starred alongside the likes of Lee Ingleby and Hermione Norris in the show – was hoping the series, which aired from Monday to Thursday, would be well received, but admitted it was "a bit of a shock" to hear so many people were "gagging" to find out what happened next.
He added: "I always thought it was good but when something seems to capture the public’s imagination … people were gagging to get home and find out the next bit and where the story was going and all the rest of it.
"When it becomes like that it’s always a bit of a shock. You go, ‘Oh, they really like it. I knew they’d like it but they really like it.’
"It just captures people’s imaginations and that’s great to be in something that has that kind of effect."
‘Innocent’ is released on DVD on May 21.
