Meek Mill to talk prison at White House

Meek Mill is heading to the White House to discuss prison reform.
The 31-year-old rapper – who was sentenced to two to four years in prison five months ago after he violated the terms of his parole stemming from a drug and weapons conviction in 2008 – was granted bail last month and feels "humbled" to be in a position to help those behind bars and wants to make a positive impact during his meeting in Washington D.C. on Friday (18.05.18).
He gave a statement to journalist Roland Martin, who shared it on Twitter in a post which read: "When I was released from prison, I promised to use my platform to give a voice to the voiceless and I’m humbled to have the chance to do that at the White House #prisonreform (sic)"
It is unclear whether the star – whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams – will speak directly with President Donald Trump at the White House but he wants to do whatever he can to help "fix a broken system".
The post continued: "This meeting isn’t about supporting individual or political parties. My goal is to share my story with our country’s top lawmakers, so we can continue the conversation around criminal justice #prisonreform
"reform and unite to fix a broken system. Together, we have a special opportunity to produce positive change. #prisonreform (sic)"
However, sources told TMZ a number of high-profile stars have reached out to Meek and urged him to cancel the visit.
After his release from prison, the ‘All Eyes on You’ rapper vowed to continue making music, and fighting to have his conviction overturned.
He said in a statement: "Although I’m blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of colour across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues. In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career."
