Shania Twain to host country music talent show

Shania Twain is to star in a new country music TV singing talent show.
The ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ hitmaker – who has appeared as a guest mentor on ‘The Voice’ and guest judged ‘American Idol’ – will front ‘Real Country’ for the USA Network.
Shania said: "It’s been an incredible year for me, releasing my new album and coming back to country music. I feel it’s time for me to add my own support in finding our greatest undiscovered talent. It’s beyond thrilling to be leading the charge with ‘Real Country’, and I’m on a mission to find artists who will keep country music diverse and dynamic. The kind of diversity that inspired all of us."
The 52-year-old ‘You’re Still The One’ singer will be joined by fellow country star Jake Owen – best known for his 2016 hit ‘American Country Love Song’ – in the search for solo artists, duos and groups who will compete to be named the new big name in country music.
Shania tweeted: "It’s beyond thrilling to be leading the charge with @jakeowen on @USA_Network’s new series REAL COUNTRY. I’m on a mission to find artists who will keep country music diverse and dynamic. The kind of diversity that inspired all of us. (sic)"
Contestants will perform showcases each episode that pay hommage to the traditions, songs and themes of the country music genre. The best artists from each showcase will then compete in a grand finale to be named the winner of ‘Real Country’.
The eight episode show is slated to film this summer in Nashville, Tennessee – which is considered the home of country music – and will air in the autumn.
Hopefuls can still apply at realcountry.castingcrane.com but it is not yet clear how the show will be judged.
Meanwhile, last year, the ‘From This Moment On’ star revealed she had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, which infects the blood and nervous system, and makes it harder for her to sing.
