Jason Donovan will "never" go back to ‘Neighbours’.
The 49-year-old actor played Scott Robinson on the Australian soap for three years from 1986 before going on to forge a successful career as a pop singer, and while a number of his former co-stars have reprised their roles, he doesn’t want to return to the show.
When asked if he would ever go back to Erinsborough, he said: "Never.
"Stefan Dennis [Paul Robinson] has been there for the last 40 years, Annie Jones [Jane Harris] has gone back."
Jason credits the programme for providing a "platform" for a whole host of actors and crew, but he no longer tunes into the show.
When asked on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ if he still watches ‘Neighbours’, he said: "Not at all.
"But my step-sister was in the show, she played Sky [Stephanie McIntosh], my dad [Terence Donovan] played Doug Willis, and you know, ‘Neighbours’ is a wonderful platform, not just for actors but for producers, writers, directors and I think as Australians we owe a lot to that sort of currency."
In 2009, Jason revealed ‘Neighbours’ bosses had asked him to return to be part of the 25th anniversary celebrations in 2010 but he had to decline.
He said: "They have asked me to come back and be part of the celebrations. But I can’t – I’m working – which is a shame."
Jason also admitted he had been asked to reprise his role as Scott in the past, and while he is "proud" of the programme, he doesn’t want to take on the part again.
He said: "They have offered for me to come back, but time has moved on considerably for me since then. I’m very proud of that show. It’s launched incredible careers over the years, and given a lot of work to people in the industry in Melbourne and Australia.
"Every day of my life I refer to it at some point and I’m not someone who runs away from that. I’m very proud of that, so long may it last."
Jason’s character was most known for his romance with Kylie Minogue’s character Charlene Robinson.
