Ofcom receives 82 Coronation Street complaints

‘Coronation Street’ has been hit with 82 complaints after Billy Mayhew took heroin in a church.
Viewers complained to UK communications regulator Ofcom after the drug-taking vicar – who is played by Daniel Brocklebank – obtained the Class A drug from his dodgy brother Lee Mayhew (Richard Crehan) and the pair were seen lying in the holy building in the aftermath of taking the addictive substance.
An Ofcom spokesperson said: "We are assessing these complaints under our broadcasting rules, before deciding whether or not to investigate."
A ‘Coronation Street’ spokeswoman said: "’Coronation Street’ has a strong tradition of tackling serious contemporary issues in a responsible way.
"In upcoming episodes we will be showing the very negative side of drug taking as Billy’s life starts to fall apart."
However, the soap didn’t show Billy or Lee actually taking the drug.
Billy has recently been obtaining methadone from his brother after becoming hooked on prescription drugs, but he was forced to turn to the harder stuff.
He has started to become desperate since he was left in a wheelchair after he fell over a cliff on Christmas Day, and while he can now walk with the aid of crutches, he is still in serious pain.
Lee’s return to Weatherfield also shook up Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), who he held hostage in an attempt to get £1,000 out of Billy to pay for his dirty habit back in June 2016.
But her brother David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) hatched a plan to deal with Lee and enlisted his new BFF Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) last week.
Josh chucked Lee into the back of David’s van and they drove him to the garage before beating him up. David threatened to go full-scale mafia boss on Lee by brandishing a tyre iron, but he eventually let him go.
During Wednesday night’s (28.02.18) episodes, Billy’s adopted daughter Summer Spellman (Matilda Freeman) will confide in evil Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) about her worries for Billy, and the calculated killer promises to sort the issues out.
