Sherrie Hewson is worried she will never find her Mr. Right.
The 67-year-old star split from her husband Ken Boyd – who she has accused of being abusive and a cheat – back in 2001 but her love life has not improved and she hasn’t been on a date in four years.
Sherrie prefers younger men but they don’t seem interested in her and is starting to believe she’s destined to spend the rest of her life on her own.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: "I would always question why a man would ask me out. A younger man wouldn’t be interested and men my own age don’t interest me, because my outlook is young.
"I’m still silly and I want to go and do stupid things. I’ve been on my own since 2001. I’ve had a couple of dates, but I hate it."
The former ‘Loose Women’ panellist revealed that in one disastrous date four years ago the man tried to control how much she drank and it put her off her quest to find love again.
She said: "I went out with somebody for dinner four years ago.
"He was a nice-looking man and he had money, but he put the cork back in the bottle of wine after I’d had one glass. So I drank the whole bottle."
Sherrie – who will be seen once again as hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage in the hit ITV comedy Benidorm’ – admitted she probably wouldn’t be able to get physical with a new man because she’s so out of practice when it comes to sex.
The actress said: "I’ve been on my own for too long; nobody’s going to tell me what to do. Friends of mine always say they wonder why I haven’t got anybody in my life and I explain it’s to do with me.
"Maybe I’ve never met anybody I really fancy, but at the age I am it doesn’t really matter if I never meet anyone, because I’ve got my daughter and my grandchildren."
Referring to the potential for lovemaking, she added: "It would probably be impossible now, because mentally I couldn’t, psychologically I couldn’t and physically I certainly couldn’t. The only thing I miss is having someone to go home to moan to. I obviously can’t burden my daughter. When you live on your own you can only argue with yourself, what’s the point of that?"
