Kym Marsh hopes Suranne Jones returns to ‘Coronation Street’.
The ‘Doctor Foster’ star played feisty Karen McDonald in the soap for four years until bowing out on Boxing Day in 2004 and Kym – whose character Michelle is now married to Karen’s former husband Steve McDonald – wants her to return to "sort him out".
Writing in her OK! magazine column, Kim said: "Suranne has said she would consider a return to ‘Corrie’ if it was for Comic Relief after hearing that her on-screen husband Steve McDonald had a secret child last year.
"Suranne has done brilliantly since leaving the show but I think a lot of people still remember her from her time on the show, so it would be good fun to get her back for a short stint – and Steve could certainly do with someone sorting him out!
"I heard that she’s been having talks in Los Angeles to become a TV producer, which is very impressive. It’s always nice to see a former co-star go on to do so well."
Suranne was involved in some big storylines as Karen, including a miscarriage and having several bust ups with her on-screen sister-in-law Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
Karen left Weatherfield after Steve broke up with her the day after the factory machinist led Tracy to believe she had burned her and Steve’s daughter Amy alive when she set fire to their brand-new car on the Red Rec.
Steve and Karen’s divorce was confirmed on the soap in January 2006, less than a year after he filed for divorce on Valentine’s Day 2005.
Steve’s former wife Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) mentioned Karen in 2010 when she feared having a miscarriage could lead to their break up, but he reassured her he parted from his no-nonsense ex for a number of reasons.
