Gemma Oaten will return to Holby City

Gemma Oaten is set to return to ‘Holby City’.
The 33-year-old actress received rave reviews when she made her debut as agency nurse Sydney Somers in the medical drama last year and now bosses are keen for her to bring her loveable alter ego back to the hospital wards this month.
A source close to the BBC told The Sun Online: "They [bosses] were so impressed with Gemma before that they’ve invited her back. She was hugely popular with fans of the show and her character has much more to give."
Although the brunette beauty will only appear in one episode, Gemma is hoping that producers decide to give her a permanent role because she "loves" playing Sydney.
A fan – who goes by the handle DanFrench32 – asked: "@gemmaoaten,Gemma I am a massive fan of #Holbycity and I am so pleased your back as Sydney
"But are you a regular now as Sydney or is it just a guest appearance?"
To which Gemma replied: "Bless your heart! Just the one episode. So grateful for that as love playing her. But watch this space. You never know xxx (sic)"
The former ‘Emmerdale’ star – who was known for playing tracksuit-loving mother Rachel Breckle in the ITV soap – announced she was making a guest appearance in the drama last year when she uploaded a photograph from her first date of set.
Taking to her Twitter account just after she arrived on set, Gemma uploaded a photograph of her dressing room with her name on it and accompanied it with the caption: "Hello #holbycity Feeling one of the luckiest & loving every minute! Can’t say anything more #happy #actress #dreambig (sic)"
Gemma isn’t the first person from ‘Emmerdale’ to join a medical drama as her former co-star Chelsea Halfpenny now has a permanent role in ‘Casualty’.
The 26-year-old actress appeared in the popular show, which is set in the same hospital as ‘Holby City’, in 2016 as trainee doctor Alicia Munroe before her alter ego fled the department as she felt bullied by consultant Lily Chao (Crystal Yu).
She then returned to the hospital last year after her parents divorced.
