Claire King struggles to learn lines

Claire King is struggling to learn her lines the older she gets.
The 54-year-old actress bowed out of ‘Coronation Street’ as shop worker Erica Holroyd over the summer months and, although she’ll miss working with her co-stars, she has admitted she doesn’t miss having to learn scripts over night because it is "hard work" and even harder now she’s older.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, she said: "When you have done soaps and you’re under that pressure to learn lines very quickly because you have to.
"You do get more accustomed to it than if you’re say doing the same play over and over every night, then you go into a new job and think ‘I can’t learn this I can’t learn this’ but, yes you do become more accustomed to retaining stuff.
"But I think it’s retained in the short memory, not the long term memory. So for a play, you know you have to do it for a long time whereas we literally get rid of it, but you know the other problem, the down side of it is the age thing, I think your memory isn’t as good as it was when you were 25."
And the blonde beauty thinks soap stars don’t get the recognition they deserve because they actually have to learn more lines in a shorter time scale then big Hollywood actors.
She explained: "Yeah, somehow it’s not been as in as high a special honours as films and dramas, but you’re actually doing far more lines than anybody else.
"Some films they just mumble through a couple of lines and its all music and atmospheric, but yeah it is hard work, and I don’t think soap actors get the acclaim they should do."
