Mark Hamill praises Star Wars newcomers

Mark Hamill has praised the new additions to the ‘Star Wars’ cast as "spectacular."
The 66-year-old actor reprises his role as Luke Skywalker in the new trilogy of the sci-fi franchise, which launched with ‘The Force Awakens’ in 2015, and has continued with eighth overall instalment ‘The Last Jedi’, which was released this week.
And with a new trilogy comes a host of new actors, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, and Oscar Isaac as Poe, all of which Mark was more than happy to get to work with.
Asked how he felt about passing on the baton to the younger cast, he said: "First of all the cast is spectacular, they are so talented in their own way. I used to be the orphan kid now we have Daisy, I used to be the hotshot impulsive wing fighter now we have Poe. I feel like a kid wanting to stop others playing with my toys! But basically I am at the age where I am happy to let the kids do the heavy lifting."
Mark’s character has undoubtedly grown up since he first took the role on in 1967, and Luke Skywalker has now become the "hermit Jedi" that was famously portrayed by the late Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy.
When asked if he took any inspiration from working with Alec 40 years ago, Mark praised the legend as "one of the greatest actors ever".
Speaking during a press conference for the new movie held in London earlier this week, he said: "Well I was so lucky to work with Alec Guinness, I would see him in the West end. He is one of the greatest actors ever. If I was another wise benign Jedi we have already done that. I still say a Jedi would never give up but that is a new film."
