Duncan James is planning a break from ‘Hollyoaks’.
The Blue singer’s contract as Detective Ryan Knight comes to an end next year, and with his alter ego recently revealed as his wife Amy Barnes (Ashley Slanina-Davies)’s killer, it seems the writing is on the wall for the policeman, but the 39-year-old star doesn’t plan to leave Chester for good.
He told OK! magazine: "On ‘Hollyoaks’ if you’ve committed crime or killed someone, then justice has to be served – that’s the golden rule. But I was always going to do at least two years on ‘Hollyoaks’. I’m still on contract until next year.
"I think after [that] I might take a break from it and then go back, I’m not being killed off."
Ryan killed Amy after she learned he’d been sleeping with men behind her back, and Duncan recently teased his character could kill again to keep his secret from becoming public knowledge.
He said: "It’s so genius what is coming up – the plot still thickens over the next few months. There are so many twists to come – more will be revealed. He’s a very complex character and there is a lot of darkness in Ryan. His backstory comes out in the next few months – there’s a lot with his father that will make viewers understand why there is all of this darkness and deceit.
"How far does Ryan go to keep his secret – could he be killing more people? I don’t know! But with ‘Hollyoaks’, you never know what is going to happen – Mercedes has killed loads of people and she’s still there. With Ryan’s story, it all gets a lot more introverted and there’s so much more to tell so he’s not going anywhere yet."
