Professor Green admits to suppressing his heartache for years

Professor Green suppressed the grief he felt over his father’s death for years.
The 33-year-old musician’s dad Peter committed suicide back in 2008 – but Pro only became comfortable talking about his heartache following a conversation with his grandmother during the making of a BBC documentary years later.
In a film made by the mental health charity Heads Together, Pro explains: "I was petrified. It scared me that people were going to see me at my most vulnerable, in a way that I don’t often see myself.
"But that conversation changed everything because from that point everything was out in the open and I was able to then talk to my friends about it."
The rap star – whose real name is Stephen Manderson – previously admitted to suffering from anxiety, but committing suicide is something that never crossed his mind.
He shared: "I never felt suicidal. Yes, there have been times when I’ve felt so anxious that I’ve wanted to get out of my skin.
"But I’ve never ever thought about how I would do it so I can’t say I have been suicidal. I’ve felt like I just wanted everything to stop, which is very different from wanting to be dead."
Pro said that while he can understand why people might feel suicidal, he has never "veered towards" such dark thoughts.
He explained: "I can see how, for some people, those thoughts can lead to ‘the only way things can stop is by doing you know what’. But that’s not something I’ve ever veered towards."
And the London-born musician revealed he will continue to be vocal about mental health issues because it is something he cares passionately about.
Pro said: "It is something is so personal to me, which is why I’m so vocal about it."
