Great British Bake Off’s Jane charity cake sells for £300

‘The Great British Bake Off’s Jane Beedle’s cake has sold at auction for £300.
The garden designer – who made it to the final of the cooking competition in October but missed out on the winning title to Candice Brown – whipped up a delicious dog-themed treat for The Mayhew Animal Home’s Tinsel and Tails Christmas Fundraiser, held at the The Grand Connaught Rooms in London, on Tuesday (06.12.16) night.
Asked to describe her mouth-watering sweet treat, Jane told BANG Showbiz: "It’s an indulgent death by chocolate cake with fondant icing with a Christmas tree, two dogs and a glittery stocking on the top. It’ll keep for about a week to 10 days."
The eye-pleasing dessert, which had the animal charity’s name emblazoned on the snowy base in red icing, started with a £100 bid, before climbing £50 each time, with the final bidder Kate Lawler raising her hand and snapping it up for £300.
The annual fundraiser saw guests – who arrived with their pet pooches in tow – indulge in a three-course meal, watch a performance put on by belly dancers, take part in the auction and try their luck in the popular raffle.
EastEnders’ hunk Danny-Boy Hatchard, ‘The Only Way is Essex’s Debbie Douglas, Ali Bastian and ‘Love Island’s Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen were in attendance.
Mayhew’s Chief Executive, Caroline Yates, said: "Tinsel and Tails is all about celebrating the charity’s work in rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats and raising funds to enable this work to continue.
"The fundraiser was a great opportunity to highlight some of the many animal welfare issues our staff are faced with every day, including cases of neglect and illegal breeding, and showcasing our ongoing work out in the community helping vulnerable pet owners. The Mayhew receives no government or lottery funding so we rely completely on the generous donations of our supporters.
"I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped us raise awareness of the vital work we do both in the UK and internationally. All the money raised will go towards to helping more animals in need."
