New Prince documentary coming in 2017

A new Prince documentary focusing on the late pop legend’s early years and journey to super-stardom is being released next year.
‘Prince: R U Listening?’ will tell the remarkable story of how the ‘Raspberry Beret’ singer – who tragically died in April at the age of 57 – became one of the world’s biggest and most experimental musicians.
The film will feature interviews from Prince’s friends, family and long-time collaborators like Shelia E and memories of him from his musical peers such as Sir Mick Jagger, Billy Idol, Bono and Lenny Kravitz.
Prince’s former bandmates such as Dez Dickerson – who toured with ‘The Purple One’ as part of his group The Revolution in the 1980s – and Andre Cymone, who played bass in Prince’s teenage band Grand Central, will also be offering their own stories of their time with Prince.
‘Prince: R U Listening?’ is being directed by Michael Kirk, who is most famous for writing, producing and directing the docuseries ‘Frontline’.
A German distributor confirmed the project is in development after announcing that it has secured the rights to the film for German-speaking countries.
At the height of his success in 1984, Prince had the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 singles with ‘When Doves Cry’, the number one film at the US box office with ‘Purple Rain’ – in which he played the main character – and the number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with movie’s soundtrack of the same name.
