Eddie Redmayne’s award guilt

Eddie Redmayne feels "guilty" when he wins awards.
The ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ star – who has scooped an Oscar, BAFTA, SAG award, and Golden Globe, amongst other achievements – insists his profession isn’t as important or worthy as so many others so feels uncomfortable when he’s recognised for his work.
He said: "Awards make me feel guilty. As actors, lest we forget, we are adults being paid a lot of money to dress up and pretend to be someone else. We don’t cure diseases or solve the secrets of the universe!"
The 34-year-old star also admitted he feels "disturbed" by bad reviews but thinks it is important to listen to critics as they help him to learn.
He said: "There have been occasions where bad reviews have disturbed me.
"I’ve worked with some actors who are immune to criticism. But that can also mean you don’t listen you director, that you’ve stopped learning."
And Eddie – who has four-month-old daughter Iris with wife Hannah – insists he hasn’t changed because of his international success.
He shared: "My life hasn’t changed in any fundamental way since winning an Oscar, other than becoming a father, which has been extraordinary.
"I still see the same friends as before. I’m simply happy to be doing what I’ve wanted to do with my life since I was 12."
Though ‘The Danish Girl’ star’s parents have always been supportive of his ambitions, Eddie admits his father urged him to seek a more stable and financially-rewarding profession.
He told Woman magazine: "Both my mother and father were very supportive of my acting ambitions, but my father, being in finance, did advise me that the odds were stacked against me.
"He would say to me, ‘Are you sure you wouldn’t rather be a producer? You would prbably earn a lot more money.’"
