Harry Hill’s TV Burp was going ‘downhill’

‘Harry Hills’ TV Burp’ was starting to go "downhill."
The 52-year-old host believes his comedy show, which ran from 2002 until 2012 – was taken off air at the right time because the ratings were starting to dip and he wanted it to end on a high.
He explained: "I know that if we’d kept doing ‘TV Burp’ it would have gone downhill. People would have been over it. And actually the ratings were beginning to go down and it wasn’t quite the must-see programme that it was."
The comedian – who is known for his impersonations – will return to television screens this weekend for his new Sky1 series ‘Harry Hill’s Tea-Time’, which is a bizarre take on cooking shows, but has admitted he can see the resemblance between both programmes, although they are also very different.
He explained to Digital Spy: "I think for my money this is as funny as ‘TV Burp’, and I think at times it’s funnier and I think it’s very different. I think the key is not to make something similar.
"Broadcasters and other people always want you to repeat the same thing over and over again, but you have to keep your nerve, otherwise it’s boring, isn’t it?"
However, Harry believes ‘Tea-Time’ is one of the "funniest things" he’s ever done and is something new for TV.
He said: "I think [‘Tea-Time’] is one of the funniest things I’ve ever done and I think it’s inventive and it’s kind of fresh and not like anything else on TV."
The first episode, which will hit television screens on Sunday (16.10.16), will see ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge Paul Hollywood carving a kebab into the shape of George Michael.
He explained: "He was good fun. I was surprised, because I was always a bit scared of him on ‘…Bake Off’. I mean, I think you could probably push him too far! And the first time I met him on the set he was dressed as a silver fox. He’s standing there and he’s looking at me like, ‘What have I got myself into here?’ "
