Calvin Harris won’t release any more albums

Calvin Harris isn’t planning to release any more albums.
The 32-year-old DJ has been having a think about how best to share his music with the masses, and he has reached the conclusion that dropping singles when they are ready is "the way forward", rather than putting out a whole album.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward. Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts. Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success."
The ‘This Is What You Came For’ hitmaker has had consistent success in the charts, and he believes that he can cash in on that by just making the chart topping singles.
The change in direction for the musician comes after an increase in the importance of music streaming on sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal.
Last year, streaming edged past downloads as the most valuable music format, and with Calvin being the first British musician to hit one billion Spotify streams in 2014, the royalties the ‘Summer’ hitmaker will make from streaming looks to be on the increase.
Calvin – who has released four albums, ‘I Created Disco’, ‘Ready for the Weekend’, ’18 Months’ and 2014’s ‘Motion’ – will be starting the single-only process with ‘My Way’, which is due to be released on Friday (16.09.16).
The news comes after 53-year-old musician Seal revealed last month that he too only wanted to release singles as he doesn’t think it is "effective" to release albums any more.
He said: "The playing field is different these days. The concept of going into a studio for however long and making a concept album, so to speak, I don’t know if that’s relevant these days or if indeed that is practical to do. It’s certainly not so effective."
