Parry Glasspool has been suspended from ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 24-year-old actor – who portrays student Harry Thompson on the Channel 4 soap – will miss two weeks of filming after posting a controversial clip on Instagram, in which he appeared to joke about domestic violence while brandishing a knife.
Parry has also received a "substantial" fine, which is being donated to a domestic violence charity.
The actor has since deleted his social media accounts and has now apologised for the video – in which he pretended to be a jealous girlfriend recording a message for her partner – and insisted he does not condone domestic violence.
He said in a statement: "I want to say sorry to anyone I have upset or offended.
"My friends would know that I would never condone domestic violence in any way and I am mortified that people would think that about me.
"My post, made a few months ago, was intended to be a funny take on other videos that I had seen shared on social media but on reflection was not appropriate for my followers.
"It wasn’t meant to be sinister but I can see why it was viewed as such. I will be taking a break from social media."
The 30-second clip was titled "When girls try and hide their crazy…" and featured the actor waving a knife in front of the camera.
He said in the footage: "Babe, I don’t mind you talking to other girls, OK? No, actually I would. I would kill you if you did. Wouldn’t even know how to. With this knife I know exactly how to. Done it before and I’ll do it again so don’t even think about it."
The incident came a few months after he apologised for making a "date rape" joke about ‘Love Island’ contestant Daniel Lukakis on Instagram.
