Cara Delevingne: Female superhero stories are important

Cara Delevingne thinks it is "important" to tell "women’s stories" in the superhero world.
The 23-year-old model-and-actress stars as Enchantress in DC Comics’ new ensemble movie ‘Suicide Squad’ – which also features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Karen Fukuhara as Katana and Viola Davis as tough commander Amanda Waller – and is thrilled that, like Gal Gadot’s upcoming ‘Wonder Women’ film, all the female characters are depicted as more than just a love interest or sidekick.
She told BBC News: "I always remember seeing the kind of comic book movies where women are the love interest or just a sidekick.
"Of course, there are still more male characters but all the women are on a par with them, and they have the best lines.
"Especially with Wonder Woman coming out next year, it’s important to find and tell women’s stories in this superhero world, because the films are just so popular with audiences."
Meanwhile, Margot had such a great time working on the film, she’s desperate to make a number of sequels.
She said: "[I could do] 10 ‘Suicide Squad’ movies if they wanted me to – we are a family now".
And the Australian beauty is thankful director David Ayer helped her and her castmates – who also include Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Jared Leto – to bond as they are now "truly a squad".
She said: "David Ayer got all of us together for weeks before filming started to rehearse and to thrash things out about our characters, and so we ended up bonding off screen, we truly became a squad. We were joined at the hip."
Margot was the first person to sign up for the movie.
She recalled: "[I signed up] when there was no script and no one else attached apart from David.
"Something in my gut said, ‘Yes, this is the one you should do’ even though I had another project lined up."
