Kiefer Sutherland to play his original character in Flatliners film

Kiefer Sutherland has revealed he is to play his original character in the new ‘Flatliners’ film.
The 49-year-old actor has let slip that he will be reprising his role as medical student Nelson Wright from the 1990 movie in the upcoming project but he has changed his name in an effort to move on from the near-death experiments of his earlier years.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, Kiefer said: "I play a professor at the medical university. It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original ‘Flatliners’ but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film."
His character Nelson in the original movie was the ring leader of the group of students – played by Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt – who carried out the dangerous experiments in an attempt to prove there is an afterlife, with terrifying consequences for all of them.
Kiefer is the only original cast member returning to the new film, which stars Nina Dobrev, Ellen Page and Kiersey Clemons, and he was very excited to get the call asking him to star in it.
He said: "I loved making the first film and when I was asked if I would be interested in taking part in this, it didn’t take more than a minute to say yes."
Another project he was also very happy to be a part of was the western drama ‘Forsaken’ in which he stars alongside his 81-year-old father Donald Sutherland.
Kiefer said of the film and his father: "I had wanted to work with my dad for so long and when you’ve waited for something for 20, 30 years, each day is so loaded with expectation.
"That was the only difficult part to manage. Being on set was actually one of the most relaxed, enjoyable experiences I’ve had in a long time."
