Steven Spielberg gets Blue Peter badge

Steven Spielberg has been given a gold ‘Blue Peter’ badge.
The Oscar-winning director was awarded the highly-sought after accolade, which has previously been given to the Queen, JK Rowling and Sir David Attenborough, by host Lindsey Russell on Thursday (21.07.16) evening’s show.
He said: "I’m going to wear it with pride. I’ve been aware of ‘Blue Peter’ ever since I started making movies here in 1980. I made ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ here in the UK in 1980. This is my first ‘Blue Peter’ badge … so thank you."
The 69-year-old filmmaker admitted he’s "always secretly wanted" the badge and is thrilled he’s finally got one after being recognised for his talent, passion and pioneering work.
The gold badge is dished out to a handful of people – both adults and children – every year as recognition for their achievements, bravery, inspiration and citizenship.
Meanwhile, Steven has had a busy few months as his new movie ‘The BFG’, which is based on the well-loved book by Roald Dahl, has just hit cinema screens around the world.
To go hand-in-hand with the release of the film, ‘Blue Peter’ ran a Dream Big competition, which saw young viewers pitch their own fantasy stories, and the winner Betty, 12, got the chance to discuss her winning entry with the famed director.
