Willie Garson has joined Jack Black’s ‘The Polka King’.
The ‘Sex and the City’ star will appear alongside J.B. Smoove and Vanessa Bayer in the movie, which is based on the Joshua Brown and John Mikulak documentary, ‘The Man Who Would be Polka King’.
The doc told the true story of the rise and fall of Grammy-nominated Pennsylvania polka music superstar Jan Lewan, who shocked the dance genre’s world when he was found to be seducing fans into investing in a fraudulent operation.
The Ponzi scheme involved Lewan, who performed in a Polish music group, organising trips to Poland for his fans where he bought souvenirs in the then-communist country and resold them at a new store in America for a big profit.
He then began offering unregistered promise notes at a guaranteed 12 per cent interest to raise further funds, but Lewan eventually went bankrupt and was sent to prison for fleecing millions from investors.
What’s more, he was surrounded by accusations of vote tampering when his wife attempted to win Mrs. Pennsylvania.
Black is to produce the movie under his Electric Dynamite label, and Maya Forbes and Wally Wolodarsky are to co-direct the project and write the screenplay.
David Permut, Stuart Cornfeld, Shivani Rawat, Monica Levinson and Priyanka Mattoo will also produce the motion picture.
