Zara Holland is devastated to have left ‘Love Island’ due to a family illness.
The former Miss Great Britain, who was stripped of her title during her time on the ITV2 dating programme, has taken to social media to share how upset she is to have left the show, whilst thanking everyone for their "support" after she fled the island to be by her ailing mother Cheryl Hakeney’s side.
Taking to Twitter hours after she left the show on Sunday (19.06.16), she wrote: "This sums up how I’m feeling, but knowing I’ve got incredible support makes me feel very humble. Thank you so much."
It comes after Zara was criticised for having sex with Alex Bowen on the programme, which resulted in her having the coveted title removed.
After learning the news, Zara broke down in tears on the programme telling her fellow ‘Love Island’ co-stars: "They’re taking my title off me."
The blonde beauty then got all of the show’s contestants together to tell them.
She said: "I need to speak to everyone. I’ve just had some news. They’ve taken my title off me. They’ve done a statement and stuff just saying ‘it’s not acceptable."
Zara later released a statement in which she explained she was "sad" to leave and that she had "the time of [her] life" on the TV show.
In a statement, she explained: "I’m so sad to leave the villa but it’s important for me to get home and spend time with my mum while she gets better. I’ve had the time of my life on ‘Love Island’ and would like to thank all of my fellow Islanders and the production team for all their support."
A spokesperson for ITV added: "Our thoughts are with her and her family and we send all of our best wishes."
