LeAnn Rimes almost quit music due to her battles with anxiety and depression.
The 33-year-old country singer has just signed a new record deal with Sony’s RCA UK label and is set to return with her first single in three years called ‘The Story’ later this month.
However, LeAnn has opened up about how she went through "hell" growing up as a child star and she almost gave up on music after she was personally attacked for cheating on her former spouse Dean Sheremet in 2009 with her now husband Eddie Cibrian.
She said: "I lost my mind in private. I’ve gone through a lot, every transition and every feeling that goes along with being a child star.
"I can see now why at 33 things happened the way they did and all of these lessons I’ve learned. But it was hell at times … (The affair) was a mistake but it also led me to my marriage. I didn’t know how to deal with that and it became this snowball effect."
Although she regrets the way she treated Dean, LeAnn now has a very happy marriage to Eddie – who was married to Brandi Glanville when they embarked on their affair after meeting on the set of ‘Northern Lights’ – and knows he is the right man for her.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she shared: "I’m very happy now. We’ve been married for over five years and I have my two stepsons, but the shaming thing, that’s where I had severe anxiety and depression.
LeAnn explains that the lead single ‘The Story’ is an emotional ballad about "self-acceptance".
Talking about the track, she said: "’The Story’ is a song that resonates with me as WE are all a part of one collective, universal story. I fully embrace the journey I am on and have a deeper understanding of how every piece of my story serves a purpose in my evolution as a woman and an artist. This song is not only a love song but a song of self-acceptance and appreciation for life."
‘The Story’ taken from LeAnn’s 16th studio LP will be released on June 24.
